The Deklarasi Perserikatan Bangsa Bangsa tentang Hak-hak Masyarakat Adat<\/a> (UNDRIP), menetapkan bahwa\nmasyarakat adat memiliki hak atas persetujuan penggunaan akan tanah, budaya, dan sumber daya\nmereka berdasarkan informasi yang diberikan sejak awal dan tanpa paksaan. Hak ini ditegaskan dalam\nkonteks penentuan nasib sendiri dan pengakuan bahwa masyarakat adat telah mengalami sejarah\nketidakadilan. Teks pembukaan UNDRIP berikut menjelaskan konteks untuk hak-hak ini:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMengakui kebutuhan mendesak untuk menghormati dan mempromosikan hak-hak yang melekat pada\nmasyarakat adat yang berasal dari struktur politik, ekonomi, dan sosial mereka, dan dari budaya, tradisi\nspiritual, sejarah dan filosofi mereka, terutama hak mereka atas tanah, wilayah, dan sumber daya mereka\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYakin bahwa kontrol masyarakat adat atas pembangunan yang memengaruhi mereka dan atas tanah,\nwilayah, dan sumber daya mereka akan memungkinkan mereka untuk mempertahankan dan memperkuat\nlembaga, budaya, dan tradisi mereka, dan untuk mendorong perkembangan mereka sesuai dengan aspirasi\ndan kebutuhan mereka ...\u201d<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Selain kewajiban moral untuk menghormati hak asasi manusia, terlibat dalam dan menghormati hasil\ndari proses PADIATAPA juga merupakan cara untuk meminimalkan dan mengubah konflik dan kekerasan\nyang secara historis diberlakukan oleh pemerintah dan industri pada masyarakat adat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
